Year 2 - WOW Lesson - Intrepid Explorers

To launch our exciting humanities topic 'Intrepid Explorers', the year 2 children spent the afternoon going on an expedition of their own! We found out about the spices that Marco Polo discovered in Asia; we imagined what it would have been like for Neil Armstrong to set foot on the moon; we found out why Sir Francis Drake was given a knighthood by Elizabeth the First and we had a table covered in ice to help us imagine what it would have been like for Junko Tabei at the top of Mount Everest. We recorded our explorations in a log book and tea stained a map of our travels to make it look old. Our expedition helped us to appreciate just how much past intrepid explorers have contributed to the way we live today!
